I offer a different kind of counseling for those who think and feel differently. This is a judgment free space to allow for free expression of emotions, and to help you find solutions to the barriers in your life.

GIFTED / HIGH IQ

Being gifted does not always feel like a gift. It can be isolating, confusing, and the pressure of needing to succeed is a lot to deal with. The ability to think critically about detailed memories of confusing or upsetting events or social interactions can lead you to being overly critical of yourself.

Let's work together on a deeper exploration of your thoughts and goals to help you improve balance and moderation in their lives.

We can work together to learn how to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression, recognize and manage deep emotions, reduce overanalyzing, and focus on your positive strengths.

Anxiety and Depression

Intense thoughts can lead to intense fears. Pressure from others to succeed can turn into feelings of isolation, self-doubt, and low-self esteem. Feeling unheard or misunderstood can lead to depression. Anxiety and depressive disorders are more common in those with high IQs. Learning how to manage these emotions can help you become the person you want to be.

Those with High IQs are also likely to try to self-medicate these problems with food, caffeine, cigarettes or other tobacco products, alcohol, legal or illegal substances. The intent for this can vary between wanting an escape from the unwanted feelings, to trying to increase mental performance to meet unrealistic expectations. Addressing how anxiety and depression contribute to this process is a key component of creating healthier life choices.

Other Medical/Physical Conditions

Allergies, Autoimmune Disorders, Migraines, Headaches, Stomach Aches. All of these medical issues occur more frequently in people with high IQs. We can work together to find ways to help you manage emotions related to medical conditions and help you figure out ways to gain better control over the physical signs and symptoms of stress.

Overexcitabilities

Maybe you were diagnosed with a disorder in the past that you didn't feel was accurate, or maybe others said negative things to you or your parents about your behavior during times of intense emotions or interests.

Overexcitabilities are exactly what they sound like, being over excited or intensely involved in one or more of five areas.

-  Emotions

-  Imagination

-  Awareness of senses

-  Movement /Physical Activity

-  Knowledge and Learning

It can often be difficult to appropriately express your excitement/passion to others, and spouses, parents, or others may become frustrated when working with someone who has these intense feelings.

We can work together to help you find ways to express what your overexcitablities are to others and how to use them towards your personal goals.

Sensory Differences

There is a phrase in the field of psychology "Hyper Brain, Hyper Body" that quite accurately describes how you might experience the world differently due to heightened sensitivity or seeking out interesting textures, flavors, sights, sounds or smells.

Learning to meet your sensory needs in a way that benefits your brain can reduce physical and mental stress.
