Kelsey Darmochwal, LMHC, NCC

Every person has different strengths, support needs, communication styles, and sensory experiences. Therapy at Positive Perceptions is not about making you or your child fit into a narrow concept of "normal". It is about helping you understand yourself in a way that lets you build support that fits, and feel more comfortable, connected, and aware of your strengths.

It has been my passion for over 13 years to help gifted, neurodivergent, disabled, 2E and 3E individuals and their families. I help clients better understand their needs, communicate those needs more effectively, and navigate relationships, school, work, parenting, trauma, burnout, and emotional and sensory overwhelm.

My goal is not to "fix" neurodivergent minds. Instead I work with you or your child to identify strenghts, reduce distress, build confidence, and develop skills for harder moments. I believe all behavior is communication. If someone is struggling, I look at the whole "picture" to understand : sensory needs, trauma history, anxiety, masking, executive functioning deficits, unmet needs, communication differences, or an  environment that may not be working well for that person.

Our goal is not to pretend to be ok. Our goal is to help you feel safer, more understood, more supported, and more able to meet goals that are important to you.

I use a personalized neurodivergent-affirming combination of DBT,  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Biofeedback, Neurodivergent Affirming EMDR, Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, Mindfulness, Meditation, and Play Therapy Techniques. These are adapted to fit the individual, rather than to make you fit the tools.

My training includes master's degrees in both Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitational Counseling. I also have a Bachelors in Psychology,

a Minor in Interpersonal Relations, and 4+ years experience in Special Education and Teaching. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Indiana and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I am a Certified ADHD- Clinical Services Provider, and ASD- Clinical Service Provider. These certifications are only one part of my ongoing learning, which includes training, consultation, and education from other neurodivergent professionals  and my own lived experience.
